From Barb DuBois:
Passing of a true Icon in the Arabian Horse Assn....W. C. "Dub" Miller passed away on November 8, 2006. He was President of the International Arabian Horse Association in the 1950's and celebrated his 100 birthday with all of us delegates at the 2005 AHA convention. He was a horseman of great renown and his love for the breed will be unsurpassed. "Dub" even showed in Pleasure Driving at the age of 99!! He will be missed. Now comes the hard part for this newsletter... ever since Norm Daloiso passed away on July 14th, 2006 I have dreaded trying to write about another friend leaving us. I know that when Don Wardle died in January Norm didn't have anything done or put in the paper per Don's wishes... he was just such a private person. But for all of us who knew them as War-Dal Arabians, as friends, as Jack Russell raisers, we know that we have lost two wonderful people in just 6 months. After reading what Alison and Michael wrote for Norm's obituary I knew that it had to be printed here... my job had been done for me, and it couldn't have been done any better. With a few exceptions we can say that this is a tribute to Don also, albeit a few months late, but none the less from the heart. We know they both have found the greener pastures and center ring and a lot of those who went before them are showing them around!
Norm passed away July 14, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. Norm was a respected long standing member of the Arabian Horse Association as well as the Jack Russell Terrier community. A perfectionist, Norm always put his utmost into all his endeavors. Norm grew up in Ohio, but was incredibly proud of his Italian heritage. His parents came to America from Abruzzi, Italy. He left Ohio for Southern California when he was accepted to the famed Pasadena Playhouse, a renowned school of acting. He worked in the film industry for several years as a publicist for Columbia Studios. He later developed a passion for horses, which led to his involvement with the Arabian Horse. He became a world renowned showman, trainer and judge, as well as one of the best breeders of Arabians at his War-Dal Arabians farm, (which was co-owned by Don Wardle who passed away January, 2006) that produced the likes of Taleeze, Firelord and Trinidad.
While trying to thin out the rabbit population at his ranch in the early 90's, Norm discovered the Jack Russell Terrier, and quickly became an enthusiast. He raised JRTS at his Hi-Flashun Kennel in Temecula's wine country for nearly 14years. The demand for his Terriers around the country is a testament to his success in that regard. He delighted in being around his dogs and cherished each one of them.
Norm served as an inspiration to many. Norm's passing deeply saddens us. but rejoice in having known him, and will keep him our thoughts and hearts. Norm 's ashes with the RCAHA club logo emblazoned on the Urn carrying them will be taken to Italy by their good friends, the Bedeker's, for burial with his family. When I opened my e-mail on February 28, 2006 I had a message from Marci de la Torre which was saddening....here it is as she wrote it. "To all of Gemini's friends.. This morning SX Stales Gemini (Serafix x Neecheza), a truly grand gentleman, was put humanly to sleep after a short illness weakened him to the point where he could no longer support himself on his feet. He went down and, although we were able to get him up numerous times during the past week, at last none or our efforts worked. With a heavy heart, I made the decision to call the vet. I held his head in my arms while he left us - creating such a tremendous void in our lives He was such a grand guy and I will miss him every day. Gem was 33 years old and, perhaps, the last living *Serafix son. Gem leaves us with his beautiful daughter, SX Geminis Glory (aka Gracie), conceived when he was 30." Marcie, you have our condolences in your loss. We all know the pain that losing a friend can bring, but can you imagine what he must have felt becoming a "Dad" at 30? That's like an old geezer snickering at all the young studs in the pasture as he watches his pre-schoolers play "in the park"!!! Now, this is a difficult paragraph to write. I haven't had the heart to write about all of the deaths in the club that have happened this past year and a half, and more so because they were personally close...some more than others....Esther Mekeel, Lynda Burton (Brinker), Anna Souza, "Leo" Mustad (Valerie's husband), David Wright, and now Don Wardle. It seemed like every few months someone left us for good and I didn't want to hear any more depressing news so I just let it pass. That wasn't very kind of me for them. These people were a credit to their existence and left their mark in this world. We (I) do miss them and in their own way they have touched us all. The Arabian world lost some great wonderful people, we all lost some friends. January 3, 2006 Entriguing LA crossed over Rainbow Bridge.
Due to complications from colic, it was with heavy heart, we said our tearful goodbyes and decided to end Ella's pain and suffering.
Ella was last shown at the RCAHA Fall Show September 2005. She was Open Halter Champion Mare and Res. Champion Halter Mare in ATH.

You will forever be young and beautiful in our hearts and minds. Entriguing LA
